UEMS PS Symposium at EPA Congress 2024: Highlights and Insights
The UEMS Section of Psychiatry (UEMS PS) was actively involved in the EPA Congress 2024 held in Budapest this April, showcasing significant advancements and collaborative efforts in psychiatric education and care.
Key Activities:
• Joint Workshop on Education and Training: The workshop featured important updates on the European Training Requirements (ETR) for psychiatry, presented by Dr Andrew Brittlebank, emphasizing the evolving standards in psychiatric education across Europe.
• Symposium on Innovating Mental Healthcare: Dr Krzysztof Krysta led a session on using digital technologies to enhance mental healthcare for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, highlighting telepsychiatry as a crucial tool for equitable mental healthcare.
• Joint Symposium with Hungarian NPA: Addressing the difficulties and possibilities in European psychiatry training, this symposium included a presentation by Dr. Krysta on the psychiatry training curriculum from a European perspective.
• Case-Based Workshop: Dr. Marisa Casanova Dias presented a workshop on managing acute mania in the third trimester of pregnancy, discussing the unique challenges and solutions in treating psychiatric conditions during pregnancy.
• E-Poster Presentation: Slađana Štrkalj Ivezić presented on assessing recovery processes in a mobile rehabilitation team for severe mental disorders using the Recovery Helm, showcasing innovative community mental health approaches.
• EUFAMI’s Prospect Training Programmes: In collaboration with the EPA Education Committee, EUFAMI’s Prospect team delivered updated training programs for health and social care professionals and individuals with lived experiences.
• Focus on Women’s Mental Health: Dr Marisa Casanova Dias also spoke at a satellite meeting on integrating women’s mental health into the psychiatry curriculum, highlighting the importance of addressing gender-specific mental health issues in professional training.
